A Relaxed Performance: Making live music accessible to all
Wednesday, March 18, 2026
On Saturday, March 28, 2026 the Kingston Symphony is excited to perform a relaxed performance of Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang.
What is a relaxed performance? The Kingston Symphony’s relaxed performances are for anyone who may prefer, or benefit from, a more relaxed approach to attending a concert with the symphony. Relaxed performances are designed to welcome the Disability community and anyone who would enjoy a more comfortable setting at one of our concerts.
These performances differ from other Kingston Symphony concerts in a number of ways. The following resources and accommodations are available:
Relaxed Guides - A comprehensive guide, written in first person, for families and audience members to use to prepare for their trip to the Kingston Symphony. The guide outlines the entire experience of attending a concert at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, provides sensory and content information about the concert, shares some tips on ways that you can make your concert experience more relaxed, and more. Concert Venue Guide.
Fact Sheet - A list of facts about the concert program to be used to prepare for the concert. Jacob Two-Two Fact Sheet.
Quiet Room - A place where you can go to relax, self-regulate or just take a break.
In and Out Privileges - There is no late call. You can enter and exit the hall as often as needed.
Movement and Vocalization - Everyone is invited to “be” in the theatre as they need to - this may include, but is not limited to: moving around, standing up, making sounds or noises, clapping at times where other people may not clap, playing with devices (with the sound off), and more.
Lights On - House lights will be left on at approximately 30%.
Empty Seats - A row of seats at the back of the hall will be kept empty should guests wish to move away from the sound of the orchestra on stage.
Other Resources - Other resources such as sound-dampening headphones can be signed out before the concert and returned afterwards.
Specialized Training - Training will be provided to musicians, Kingston Symphony staff, and front-of-house personnel by Relaxed Performance Consultant, Rachel Marks.
